Join us at the Presidio Field Station to experience this innovative interpretive center and meet the staff who created it. At this event attendees will hear from Field Station staff about their planning and development, how the public of all ages has responded, and the ways that it continues to evolve. The Field Station concept was formed during the early development of the Presidio Tunnel Tops project. The vision was to create a kid friendly “sense of place” facility offering a different experience than the traditional visitor center or history museum. The team planning the Field Station started by meeting with the park’s field-based staff (ecologists, botanists, archaeologists, etc) and learned from them about the goldmine of place-based scientific work at the Presidio. This content was the starting point for the Field Station's authentic inquiry experiences. Concurrent with the building design, staff prototyped and tested activities in pop-ups in the Presidio over three summers to iterate and shape a range of semi-facilitated experiences.
